USPS Operation Santa – Adopt a Letter

Years ago I found out about the Operation Santa program run by the Post Office – such a special program! Where do Santa’s Letters go?…to the post office of course! I would go to the local main post office where you could choose a bundle of letters that kids had written to Santa (the post office would sort from high need neighborhoods) and read through them. From these letter written by hopeful children, I would select a few high need letters to respond to and send or deliver gifts to. There were letters from kids who had a parent in jail and asked to bring something for their mom who had a hard year or a letter who asked for a gift for a younger sibling. Those letters who were asking for gifts for those in their life over gifts from them themselves really touched my heart.

This year the Post Office has made the program even easier and accessible for ANYONE – you can now access the program on-line! You go to the website, create an account as an individual or a team, read through some letters and then adopt a letter and send gifts via mail to the letter writer. You can adopt a letter (by yourself, with your family or with co-workers) and answer it to make a difference in someone’s life. I feel a bit like Oprah when I answer the letters. Give it a try this year and see how this act of service can fill your own heart this season.

*Gifts must be brought to the post office by December 21.

GIVE BACK BOX – Reuse all those Amazon Boxes and other shipping boxes for a purpose

Are you like me with stacks of boxes coming to your doorstep – who needs to go to the store anymore? I always think that Amazin needs an easy box reuseable system, but since they do not have one yet, another way to recycle them is to use them to GIVE BACK. Take those empty shipping boxes laying around and fill it with donations and ship it off!  This website makes it so easy to do just that. You can print the label directly from the website and the Post Man/Woman will even pick it up at your door!  How much easier could it be? 

TIP: If you have a lot of items to donate and need a big box – or are in need of building a cardboard spaceship for your kids – order bulk toilet paper or paper towels on Amazon.  Not only do you get your box, but you won’t have to make a trip to the store and you usually can save money too!  Don’t knock it until you try it!  Super Easy –

1. Pack up gently used toys to make space for new gifts or outgrown clothes and shoes in your empty box (have kids help go through their closets too!)
2. Go to website and download, print and attach PREPAID shipping!
3. Leave on doorstep for the mail person to pick up or take to the post office!
