Turn a Side Hustle Into a Free Vacation (with Business Credit Card Points)

Turn a Side Hustle You Already Have Into a Free Vacation: Applying for a business credit card to maximize your points!

Sell on Facebook Marketplace. Tutor a couple hours a week. Shoot the occasional wedding. Rent out a spare room. If any of that sounds like you, you’re already closer to a free flight than you think.

Chase is currently running a business card offer that pays out 100,000 points after $8,000 in spend over 4 months on a card with NO ANNUAL FEE cards – Ink Business Cash® or Ink Business Unlimited®. On paper it’s marketed as $1,000 cash back BUT converted to points and paired with a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve, that same bonus can be worth $2,000–$3,000+ in real travel. No Sapphire card yet? Get this first the bonus is high, then apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred so you can link your cards and use points for travel. OR get the Ink Business Preferred ($95 annual fee) and you can transfer directly to travel partners without the in between Chase Sapphire card, but it usually has a higher spend.

Here’s the part most people don’t realize: you don’t need an LLC, a storefront, or even a full-time gig to qualify. Sole proprietors — which is what you already are the moment you sell something for a profit — can apply with just their Social Security Number. No EIN required.

A few things worth knowing going in:

  • These offers move. If 100k is on the table now, it may not be next month.
  • Already have a Chase business card? You may not qualify for another as a Sole Proprietor, but you can under a different LLC!
  • This particular card has no annual fee — no cost to try.

Applying does trigger a hard inquiry on your personal credit, same as any card. The business account itself generally isn’t reported to your personal credit while it’s in good standing — but that’s a pattern, not a promise, so don’t take it as guaranteed.

2. Business name: No LLC or DBA? Use your own legal name.

3. Tax ID: Use your SSN. An EIN is optional, not required.

4. Business contact info: Your home address and cell phone are fine to use.

5. Personal info: Standard name/address/DOB — and for income, you can include your full household income (job, self-employment, investments, retirement, anything you use to cover bills), not just what the side hustle brings in.

6. Business details: Enter when you started the side hustle, honestly report revenue (even if it’s small), estimate monthly spend, and list yourself as the employee (1) if it’s just you.

7. Classification: Pick whatever category is the closest honest fit — “online sales” works for Marketplace/Poshmark-type selling.

8. Review and submit: Double-check everything lines up, read the terms (especially what counts as “business use”), and send it in.

Once your earn your points, here is how to maximize your free travel.

Pair your Chase Sapphire with a No Annual Fee Ink Card for best bang for your buck!

If you already have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® or Sapphire Reserve®, you can pair it with the annual fee Ink Business Cash® or Ink Business Unlimited® that you just got OR get that card here after you meet the business spend!

The Ink cards don’t transfer points directly to airline and hotel partners, but the key here is that Chase allows you to combine eligible Ultimate Rewards between your own business and personal Chase accounts.

How to do it:

  1. Log into your Chase account and open Ultimate Rewards.
  2. Select your Ink Business Cash or Ink Business Unlimited account.
  3. Choose the option to combine or move points between cards.
  4. Move your Ink points to your Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve.
  5. Once the points are in your Sapphire account, select Transfer to Travel Partners.
  6. Transfer to an eligible airline or hotel program, such as Flying Blue, United, Aeroplan, Southwest, Marriott, or Hyatt.

Example: Earn 75,000 points with an Ink Business card → move them to your Sapphire account → transfer those points to an airline or hotel partner.

💡 Why this is a great strategy: You can earn a business card welcome bonus and keep the Ink card with no annual fee, while your Sapphire card unlocks access to Chase’s travel partners. Let me know if you have any questions!

Not financial advice — I’m not an advisor, and card terms and point values shift over time. Business cards are meant for business spending under the cardholder agreement, so keep that in mind even if enforcement on small accounts is loose. A hard inquiry from applying will hit your personal credit no matter what type of card it is.
