Top 9 Things to make Quarantine fun for Teens

Top 9 Things to make Quarantine fun for Teens

Written By Shayla, Age 13

Are you fellow teens bored in quarantine? Well, I know I am. Here are the Top 9 Things for Teens in Quarantine. Especially now that it is summer and you may need more summertime quarantine, stay-at-home, ideas.

  1. Spend Time With Family

Your family is stuck in quarantine with you because of COVID19, so why don’t you get to know each other better. Plan a Family Game Night, have a friendly competition, watch movies together (Star Wars or Harry Potter Marathon?), or all of the above! I’m sure that during these activities you will laugh and have fun together. My family and I love to watch movies together! Except it takes us a long time to choose a movie we all like…

  1. Write a Book

Are you full of creativity and imagination, but don’t know what to do with it? Why don’t you start writing a book, or even a series. Writing a book can express your emotions and you can take pride in yourself every time you reread it, knowing you wrote it yourselves. I would love to read some of your stories, so please email them to me! If you want you can also try to publish your books with Amazon, so your amazing words can be read by anyone.

  1. Start a YouTube Channel

Starting a YouTube channel is another fun way to express your imagination. Everyone loves a good video, and you can do anything you want in your video. Such as challenges, book reviews, craft tutorials and many more exciting things. Also, it’s a way to make money! If you have enough viewers, YouTube will pay you to put out new videos. In the comments, everyone should put their channel so everyone can subscribe and support each other! I, personally, will go check out every single one of your channels and like your videos!

  1. Learn how to Cook and Bake

You need food to live. That is a fact. So, why not make food for yourself and your family. Cooking and baking are really fun once you start them, and they produce yummy food and desserts. I made a goal to cook a meal for my family every Friday during quarantine, and so far my meals have tasted so good. Before you decide on a meal though, you’ll want to check your fridge to make sure you have everything to make it. Some easy food suggestions are tacos, pasta, fajitas, and homemade pizza. Everyone loves pizza! Some easy desserts or treat to bake are Angel food candy (you need a candy thermometer), cookies (this one from Double Tree is awesome), and brownies. In quarantine you have extra time, so why not learn how to make food for yourselves. It will make cooking in college so much easier.

  1. Binge Watch a Show or Movie Series

Coronavirus happened and now we can’t go to the movies. Bummer dude. But there is still Disney Plus, Netflix, and Hulu! Binge-watching is one of the most time-consuming things I’ve listed so far. You can binge-watch anything, from Starwars to Peppa Pig episodes. Before quarantine started I knew I wanted to watch all the Avenger movies again, then when school stopped, I knew I could do it. Within 2 weeks I had finished every single Avengers movie ever created. With Disney Plus, Hulu, and Netflix combined with popcorn and drinks, it is the best theater at home! If you don’t have Disney Plus, you can just set up a free 7-day trial, and try to watch everything in just a week. Plus I hear now some drive-in movie theaters are opening too! Find one near you.

  1. Pick Up a New Hobby

A lot of free time means a lot of bored kids. I’m a bored kid. You too are a bored kid, or an adult who wants their kid/teen to stop bothering them. Either way you need something to do. Hobbies are a great way to stop being bored. Gardening, Knitting, Woodburning, etc. are great ways to spend your time. I started gardening and I love it! I get fresh strawberries, dill, and other food right from my backyard. When you pick up a hobby, everything gets more interesting. Outschool has fun classes to learn new hobbies everything from gardening to drawing to cooking.

  1. Learn a New Language

Languages, besides your own, can be hard and take a long time to learn. But, I know you’re reading this to find something that makes your days go faster, so learning a new language might be for you! Apps make it so much easier now. You can learn it on your phone, Ipad, laptop, and computers. Mango and Duolingo are free apps that you can use to start your journey! Your library might have a free language app. Rosetta Stone is a great app that I use, and it is free for three months right now! Languages take up a lot of time and you have to be consistent to become fluent in an unfamiliar one, but I know you guys can do it!

  1. Start A Blog

Blogs are time-consuming, but if you work hard enough you can get sponsors and make money. I knew my mom had a blog, and I wanted to be a part of it. So I started thinking of ideas. Actually starting to write these ideas was hard for me and it took me a while to post my first article, but I knew it would be worth it. If you guys want I can check out your blog too! If you put the website in the comments, I can go check it out and maybe even subscribe to your newsletter!

  1. Start an Instrument

Starting an instrument can help your mind stay sharp for school next year, without even having to study! It is hard to get your hands on an instrument, and they are pretty expensive, but your parents might have some type of instrument lying around somewhere. Learning how to play it will take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you will be great at it, I promise! Your natural skill will take over and leave your audience speechless over your beautiful playing.

Quarantine sucks and is very, very boring, but once you do some of these activities your days will be fun-filled and boring free! Do you have any other ideas to share with me in the comments below?

Shayla, I really, really, really enjoyed your article! It was very well written & interesting. Usually when there are lists of things to do for summer or dates or whatever, not all of them apply to me or would be easy to do; but I actually enjoyed EVERY single one of your suggestions & they’re all totally doable! We did the movie marathons early on in COVID stay-at-home & watched all of the Star Wars ones. We got most of them from our library with curb-side pick up & a couple free on subscriptions like Amazon Prime. We also started making some videos. You said you’d watch & like : ), so check them at at free2livefree2roam on youtube (only 4 so far & they’re short. If you want to check out our blog, my daughter wrote some of the posts. She started with “The Decision” at age 14 for a homeschool assignment. I hope you’ll visit our sites & check out some of our work. I’d love to know what you think. I am honestly so impressed with this article. I will be showing my daughters tomorrow (when they’re awake). Keep writing – you are good at it!

These are great tips! It’s really cool that you are cooking a meal every Friday for your family, I bet they really enjoy it! We started watching the Harry Potter movies the other day, but haven’t finished them yet since he’s still on the last book (he’s 9). We also love playing board games and just played Settlers of Catan and loved it! I look forward to reading more of your posts!

These sound like the things my daughter is doing this summer. Not all but perfect for teens!

Great ideas. Especially for right now when we’re mostly all at home or have a little more free time.

  • Great suggestions for keeping teens occupied. That Angel food recipe looks interesting as well. Thanks for the great post!
